Projects

The Au Contraires

Playing the joyful music of the 1930s pre-war era, with a classic four-piece format of two guitars, accordion, and bass, The Au Contraires will put a little lilt in your loafers! Dancing has been known to happen.

Triage

Three girls, one guitar!  Bowie, torch songs, punk, doo-wop, Triage sings it all in three-part harmony. Local favorites Lorna Kollmeyer, Sarah Gronquist, and Amy Kessler will rock you.

Quién Sera

Sarah Gronquist teams up on nylon string guitar with Sarah Bell, mandolinist, to play and sing classic tangoes, milongas, and valses as Quién Sera. The Sarahs also play in La Orquesta Fusion Tango, a community tango orchestra that performs for dancers at milongas and practice sessions.

Burt Bacharach Singalong

You are invited to join us for this annual event—we celebrate Burt’s birthday around May 12, with lyric books and a hot band for your woah-woah pleasure.

Le Jazu

What could be better than sitting in with friends who are great musicians? Sitting in on accordion! https://lejazu.com/about

Les Petits Pois

Every once in a while you just need to put together a pickup band and play a bunch of French torch songs, musettes, and classic swing. Marvel at our rotating cast of crack musicians! We strike without warning under the flag of Le Sueur.

And…

Sarah is available for backup and harmony singing—just reach out if you have a project.

About Sarah

Sarah Gronquist started singing in her mother’s Methodist church choir in rural Western New York State.  The household was always well-supplied with sheet music and player piano rolls, and the family’s Edison cylinder phonograph fascinated her from an early age.  After moving to the Bay Area in 1989 to become a beatnik, she found a rich musical community with the Oakland Jazz Choir, the piano bar regulars at the Alley, and a tight group of Bay Area Real Book living room jam pals. The keyboard skills she honed on Barry Manilow tunes as a girl transferred fairly painlessly to newer interests like musette and hot jazz accordion.

Someone recently asked me for a resume. Here it is.
